Fujifilm’s Next X Summit Is Almost Here With Possible New Camera

Fujifilm’s next X Summit is just a few days away and for fans of this brand’s devices, it should be interesting.

The iconic camera company announced the event with a video just a few days ago but hasn’t revealed major details about all that it will introduce.

However, tech watchers and photography enthusiasts will probably be able to see at least one new camera and a couple of lenses.

One thing that Fujifilm did announce was the release of an upcoming firmware update for its powerful X-H2s, X-H2 and GFX 100 II cameras. This firmware update will be released in November and will mostly focus on video improvements.

In Fujifilm’s video promotion for the X summit, Yuji Igarashi, Divisional Manager for the company’s Professional Imaging Group mentions that customer feedback was what spurred the firmware’s release.

It will also possibly include improvements and fixes for photographic aspects of the cameras it applies to, but while plausible, this is partly speculative.

Igarashi does mention autofocus, subject tracking and face/eye detection, so you can expect performance improvements in that area for sure. Video stability during recording will also be covered.

There will also be new functions for video in the three flagship Fuji cameras. One of these is F-Log2 C for wide color gamut. The three cameras will also offer timecode synchronization through a wired connection.

All of these were improvements requested by users according to Igarashi.

Fuji’s X Summits can be fairly frequent affairs, even by the standards of the tech world. The company has already held two previous X Summits in 2024. One of these was in February in Tokyo while the second was in Australia in May.

In both of these, a new camera was revealed. For the February event, it was the now insanely popular X100VI and in May the camera introduction was for Fuji’s X-T50 and medium-format GFX 100S II camera.

The brand also announced two lenses during the May event. These were a balance of the affordably priced XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR and the very expensive GF 500mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR.

During the October 14th event, we can be sure to see at least a couple of new lenses get introduced and an announcement of a whole new camera is very likely too.

We don’t know what kind of camera this will be or in what range, but Igarashi’s claim that “You won’t be disappointed with the X Summit,” is credible if you’re a Fujifilm fan.

One interesting possibility is that the new camera will be a Half-Frame digital device. If so, this would be Fuji’s fully digital version of a similar but analog half frame camera recently released by Pentax.
