Fujifilm Now Developing 102MP GFX Cine Camera

Fujifilm, the Japanese imaging giant, has announced the company is developing the GFX Eterna – its first cine camera featuring a 102MP GFX sensor.

In a recent press release, Fujifilm Corporation revealed its first step into developing cine cameras based on the popular and powerful GFX platform.

The Eterna will use the same GFX 102MP X Trans CMOS II HS medium-format image sensor as the flagship GFX 100 II digital mirrorless camera.

The Fujifilm X-T5’s powerful X Processor 5 brain-center will power the new Cine camera, renowned for next-gen file formats, reduced power consumption, and AI-driven performance.

The “GFX ETERNA,” currently in development, is set to revolutionize film production. Leveraging Fujifilm’s expertise and experience in the field of filmmaking, the company will combine the exceptional capabilities of Fujinon lenses with the advanced technology of the “GFX series.” Aptly named “GFX ETERNA,” it aspires to become a driving force in shaping a new era of filmmaking and is dedicated to contributing to the creation of timeless cinematic masterpieces – Fujifilm Corporation.

Remember that this is purely a development announcement but one that heralds a new era for the global imaging company.

While details are scarce, initial digital renders reveal the new GFX ETERNA, which resembles the boxy cine cameras created by other leading brands.

The camera is expected to feature essential ports for USB-C, Ethernet, audio and video output, and Genlock. The new GFX lens mount will also feature a locking mechanism to secure heavier cine lenses.

Speaking of lenses, Fujifilm also revealed the development of a new cine-grade power zoom lens for the GFX Eterna camera.

In addition to the development of the “GFX ETERNA”, Fujifilm is also working on the development of a power zoom GF lens that is optimized for this G mount camera, planned to have an actual focal length of 32-90mm, and a mount adapter from G to PL mount lenses, widely employed in film production – Fujifilm Corporation.

While the GFX ETERNA is Fujifilm’s first pro-grade cine camera, the brand has developed cine cameras for some time.

Fujifilm offers a significant lineup across five lens series, including the large-format Premista Series and ZK Cabario Series.

There’s no denying that video is king in our world of social media and constant content exposure. Fujifilm hopes to capitalize on the growth in videography and cinematography and put pro-grade kits into creative hands.

Stay tuned for future updates on the development and release of the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA cine camera.
