The latest Japanese camera sales figures are in, and it turns out that 2024 was a killer year for the camera industry.

Canon, Fujifilm, and compact cameras are the clear industry winners, with consumers winning the day with greater choice and competition.
Japanese Camera Sales Report
BCN+R, a popular Japanese retail analyst, has released its latest reports on 2024 consumer electronics sales.
All consumer electronics enjoyed a boost throughout 2024 compared to the previous calendar year – including computers, televisions, and digital cameras.
Year-on-year camera sales were higher in 9 out of the 12 months and demonstrated a return to consumer spending and confidence after the pandemic slumps.
For example, December 2024, one of the strongest months of the year, experienced a surge in digital camera sales, delivering 123.7% growth over the previous year.
Retail camera sales exploded above the 120% mark in January, March, April, May, and December 2024 compared to 2023.
BCN+R highlighted more specific trends, including the continued demand for compact digital cameras. Fujifilm X100 VI was the top MAP Camera seller in 2024.
The 2024 analysis expanded further to reveal that Canon had developed 25.55% of all cameras sold at Japanese retailers and a 151.4% increase in its 2023 sales.
Our friends at Fujifilm sold 18.6% of the market share for another stellar year.
While the BCN+R (and MAP Camera) results are for a specific regional market, it’s fair to say that the sales trends in Japan typically reflect global outcomes.
Japanese performance and sales results also directly impact the future marketing initiatives and product development of the leading brands.
