Map Camera, one of Japan’s largest camera retail outlets, has revealed the sales rankings for the 2024 calendar year, with Fujifilm taking pole position and more.
In the heart of Shinjuku, Tokyo, Map Camera is a multi-level camera retail paradise selling new and used film and digital cameras.
I’ve visited Map Camera several times over the years, and between Map and Yodobashi, I could spend days (and a small fortune) browsing the products on offer.
Fujifilm Is The Clear Winner Of 2024
Given its reputation and prominence in Japanese camera trends, the popular retail outlet has revealed the best-selling camera bodies of the year.
While heavy hitters such as Canon, Nikon, and Sony have had great years with the release of new camera bodies and lenses, Fujifilm has won the gold.
Despite delays in manufacturing and global delivery of Fujifilm’s most popular and new APS-C X Series camera systems, the brand dominated over its competitors.
The Fujifilm X100 VI pocketable powerhouse took first place, with the newly released Fujifilm X-T50 a close second.
Fujifilm’s X100 VI was released during the company’s 90th year and was met with unprecedented demand for the sixth-generation point-and-shoot.
At launch, Fujifilm also released a limited edition 90th anniversary version of the X100 VI.
However, for many, the limited edition offering resulted in the bitter realization that scalpers scooped up many of the 1,935 numbered bodies to sell at inflated prices on online marketplaces.
Fujifilm has since announced new shopping rules to throttle this damaging and frustrating practice in Japan.
During the Fujifilm X Summit 2024, held in Sydney, Australia, the brand announced the enthusiast-level X-T50. This model features the same APS-C 40MP image sensor, X Processor 5, and 5-axis image stabilization as the flagship X-T5.
Speaking of which, the Fujifilm X-T5 also appeared in MAP Camera’s top ten-selling cameras of 2024, ranking fifth despite being over two years old.

It shows the brand’s continued success in delivering APS-C digital mirrorless cameras that appeal to a broader market.
