Who is Jeremy Chan?

I’m Jeremy Chan, a professional photographer based in San Francisco.

I’ve dedicated myself to the pursuit of artistry in photography, blending fine art and graphic design to create timeless images that tell love stories and capture unforgettable moments.

I strive to push the boundaries of creativity, leaving a lasting impression through my work.

I’m honored to be recognized by Microsoft and Fujifilm and have received a number of international awards throughout my twenty-year photography career, including titles like WPPI Accolade of Photographic Mastery and Outstanding Photographic Achievement.

I’m privileged to capture the profound moments that define the human experience, immortalizing beauty, emotions, and stories through my lens.

My kit:

Fujifilm X-T3 – this is my go-to camera for most of my work, I love this camera for several compelling reasons. First and foremost the 26.1-megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS four sensor, coupled with the X-Processor four image processing engine, delivers stunningly sharp and detailed photographs.

I also love how the X-Trans sensor’s unique color filter array eliminates the need for an optical low-pass filter, resulting in images with outstanding clarity and reduced moiré patterns.

This camera also utilizes 425 phase-detection autofocus points across the entire frame which enables quick and accurate subject tracking.

The camera’s enhanced autofocus algorithms, combined with improved face and eye detection capabilities, make it an excellent choice for capturing fast-paced action or shooting portraits with precision.

Another reason that drew me to the X-T3 is its retro-inspired design and intuitive controls. The camera’s tactile dials and buttons allow for easy access to essential settings, enabling quick adjustments on the fly.

The X-T3‘s ergonomic build and lightweight construction make it comfortable to handle during extended shoots.

Additionally, Fujifilm’s commitment to lens quality and versatility is highly regarded. Also, the X-T3 is compatible with an extensive lineup of high-quality Fujinon lenses.

Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 R – this lens has become an indispensable tool in my photography kit. It has earned the title of my “workhorse lens” due to its incredible versatility and exceptional optical performance.

With a focal length of thirty-five millimeters, this lens allows me to capture a wide range of subjects and genres with ease.

Whether I’m shooting landscapes, street photography, or even portraits, the focal length provides a balanced perspective that closely mimics the natural field of view of the human eye. This characteristic makes it ideal for capturing scenes as we perceive them, resulting in images that feel organic and immersive.

One of the standout features of this lens is its fast maximum aperture of f/1.4.

This wide aperture enables me to achieve stunning low-light performance and create beautifully shallow depth-of-field effects. I can effortlessly separate my subject from the background, drawing attention to the main focal point and creating a captivating visual impact.

The ability to shoot in challenging lighting conditions without compromising image quality is a significant advantage, especially in situations where artificial lighting may be limited or unavailable.

What I particularly love about this lens is its ability to seamlessly transition between wide-angle shots and close-up portraits. By simply adjusting my position and zooming in or out with my feet, I can effortlessly compose both expansive scenes and intimate details.

This versatility eliminates the need to constantly switch lenses, enabling me to stay immersed in the moment and capture a wide variety of perspectives without missing a beat.

Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R – when it comes to portrait photography, this lens is my ultimate go-to choice. With its focal length, this lens offers the perfect balance between a standard and a telephoto perspective.

It allows me to capture flattering portraits with a natural-looking compression and a pleasing background separation. The focal length brings the subject into focus while maintaining a comfortable working distance, making it ideal for capturing headshots, close-ups, and even environmental portraits.

The optical quality of this lens is simply outstanding!

With its advanced lens design, incorporating elements such as aspherical and extra-low dispersion glass, it delivers exceptional sharpness, clarity, and detail.

The lens coatings effectively minimize lens flare and ghosting, ensuring that every image boasts excellent contrast and accurate color reproduction.

I appreciate the build quality and design of this lens as well. Its solid construction gives it a robust feel, and its sleek and compact design makes it a joy to handle.

The aperture and focus rings are well-placed, providing intuitive control and making it effortless to achieve the desired settings quickly.

This combination enables me to create images with beautiful background blur, isolating my subjects and emphasizing their importance within the frame.

Furthermore, the lens features a robust build and weather-resistant construction, denoted by the “WR” designation. This durability allows me to pursue my passion in various environments and weather conditions, ensuring that I can continue capturing awe-inspiring shots without compromise.

Fujifilm XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR – for wedding photographers, this lens is an absolute must-have! Its exceptional capabilities for capturing distant subjects make it an invaluable tool in my arsenal.

When it comes to photographing weddings, there are countless moments that unfold from a distance, and this lens performs beautifully in preserving those precious memories.

One of the standout features of this lens is its wide maximum aperture of f/2.8. This impressive aperture allows for excellent low-light performance and remarkable subject separation from the background.

In challenging lighting conditions often encountered during weddings, such as dimly lit venues or outdoor evening receptions, the lens excels in producing sharp, noise-free images, ensuring that no moment goes unnoticed.

This lens also features Fujifilm’s advanced Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) technology, which significantly reduces camera shake and blur. This stabilization system is particularly crucial when shooting handheld at longer focal lengths, ensuring that my images remain sharp and clear even when working without a tripod.

The OIS combined with the lens’s fast autofocus performance provides me with the confidence to capture spontaneous moments with accuracy and precision.

Fujifilm X100V – I have always loved fixed-lens cameras as they offer a unique set of benefits that resonate with my artistic vision.

With a fixed lens, I can fully immerse myself in the creative process, focusing solely on composition and storytelling without the distraction of swapping lenses.

I have developed a deep love for this camera with its compact size, classic design, and powerful features that make it a true gem in my camera collection!

The fixed focal length of twenty-three millimeters has become my favorite as it allows me to capture scenes with a natural perspective and a hint of wide-angle.

This focal length enables me to portray subjects authentically and create images that evoke a sense of intimacy and connection.

Its advanced sensor and processor deliver beautiful colors and dynamic range. The hybrid viewfinder provides a unique shooting experience, allowing me to seamlessly switch between an optical and electronic view.

With its versatile features, intuitive controls, and portability, the Fujifilm X100V truly empowers me to capture unforgettable moments with ease and style.

StellaPro Reflex S – this hybrid LED monolight and strobe, released by Light and Motion, has revolutionized the way I approach my craft, thanks to its speed, power, and versatility.

The system is modular, very portable, and capable of adapting to a variety of different mounting solutions.

The overall performance of this system is splendid as it can fire continuously without any dips in power even in high-speed sync. This ensures that during action moments, you’ll never miss the shot.

It’s a portable device that delivers the power of a studio strobe, making it ideal for on-location shoots. The unit’s 200Ws of power, combined with its speedlight and bare-bulb flash heads, provide me with flexibility and reliability for any shooting scenario.

The High-Speed Sync (HSS) feature is another aspect that I really appreciate as it allows me to shoot at shutter speeds faster than the camera’s flash sync speed, giving me more control over the exposure and depth of field in brightly lit conditions.

The built-in 2.4G wireless X system is a real plus as it works really well and I can also use it to control my StellaPro Reflex S.
