Though the details aren’t yet 100% confirmed, Logitech seems to be on the verge of announcing a new Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens camera with streaming.
This device will reportedly be introduced under the brand’s Mevo line of live-streaming video cameras and Logitech has hinted that the new camera will offer a larger sensor and, just as crucially, an interchangeable lens mount.
In January of 2024, Logitech released a new companion app for its Mevo line of cameras. This app, called Mevo Go, lets any Android or iOS device send video, audio and screencasting to the Mevo Multicam App.
The point of this was to make the Mevo System even more user-friendly and accessible.
However, despite the presence of a general camera ecosystem and accompanying software, the Logitech Mevo system has had hardware deficiencies.
The range of Mevo cameras generally consists of compact and fairly low-resolution devices with small sensors that are very user-friendly, but limited in visual quality. Generally, they offer a maximum stream quality of 1080p Full HD at best.
The new camera slated for announcement by Logitech is reportedly a sharp move upward from these tendencies.
With its larger, more serious Micro Four Thirds sensor and interchangeable lens, the upcoming camera will presumably deliver a more robust streaming video system.
Logitech hasn’t made any detail-specific formal announcements about any of this so far, but the company did file an FCC registration in January that claims the impending launch of a “Micro Four Thirds Wireless Video Production Camera,”
Their teaser publicity for their pending announcement lines up with the details of this registration. So do rumored specs from other sites:
An unconfirmed but rather detailed report from the Japanese site Asobinet.com about the camera claims that it will be named the Mevo Core. It also lists the following specs:
- Interchangeable lens camera “Mevo Core”
- micro four-thirds sensor
- 2 USB-C ports
- 3.5mm audio interface
- HDMI output
- microSD card slot
- 6400mAh replaceable battery
- 1/4 inch screw
- cold shoe
- USB-C 20W power supply
- 4K output at 30fps
- Compatible with Mevo Multicum APP
The graphics in the report indicate that it will be a box-type device, considerably larger than Logitech’s existing range of easy-to-deploy but compact streaming cameras.
Logitech hasn’t said anything about whether it will release any specific lenses of its own for the upcoming streaming camera but if it’s a Micro Four Thirds model, there should be no shortage of third-party optics that could work.
According to the report above, aside from its much larger MFT sensor, the camera will also sport a more robust 6,400 mAh battery and more robust connectivity with both HDMI and dual USB-C ports.
Another feature will be 4K video at 30fps, which makes sense given its reported sensor size.
We’ll know the specific details soon enough. The new camera is going to be announced on March 19 according to its very deliberately ambiguous publicity page on the Mevo website.
